Brake for Big Bikes!
If you’re wondering how else to spend time on the geographically tiny but beautiful island of Labuan, apart from lying idle on its serene shores facing the sunset, well wonder no more!
The Victoria Bike Festival will take place from 3 to 5 November 2017, an opportunity for bike enthusiasts to indulge in their passion for mean and loud machines.
The likes of Harleys, Ducatis, Hondas, Kawasakis, Yamahas and many more shall be joining the tourists sun-bathing on the beach! Expect more than 500 of these big boys’ toys to rev up their engines and display their glorified designs and modifications this year.
The festival got its name from the capital town itself, and is organised by the solidarity of bikers in Labuan. Though it started as a small, casual gathering in 2013, the Labuan Victoria Bike Festival now enters its fifth year and is gaining more publicity than ever.
Apart from the main convoy ride, there are a few other accompanying programmes such Battle of the Bands, pocket shows and shopping stalls.
Labuan is an island developed to be the country’s offshore financial centre since 1990s but has since attracted tourists who enjoy its beautiful beaches and fresh seafood. Its wealth of dive sites, great visibility and rich marine life has also attracted many divers looking for some underwater challenges.
Now with the bike festival, Labuan has garnered a loyal following among Bruneians, Indonesians – who ride all the way from Kalimantan - as well as locals from Sabah and Sarawak plus some worldwide tourists who have a special interest in big bikes.
Organised at the Lawn Ball Arena in the Labuan International Sport Arena, the event is open to all and is expected to attract hundreds of participants this year. Ear-plugs are advisable but pillion riders are optional!
